Joe Italiano
– I was born and raised in Endicott, NY, and I currently work
as a high school English teacher. I live with my wife, Julie Boerst,
and my son, Dmitri Italiano. Dmitri was born at home on Earth Day
in April 2005. He is a wonderful little fellow who loves most everything
he does, especially eating, sleeping, running, playing with toys,
singing, dancing, and all things Curious George. I found out about
ecovillages when I got married 8 years ago and my wife and I were
searching for ways to live a peaceful, harmless, and meaningful life
on planet Earth. We eventually discovered EcoVillage Ithaca and fell
in love with the idea of living in a similar community. I hope White
Hawk becomes a thriving community full of joyful and active people
who build various types of interdependence with one another. A true
community—not just a place to park my body while it sleeps.
Julie and I were involved with White Hawk in 2004, but I am not the
type to rush into new things and we waited until our inner voices
told us in 2007 to rejoin the group and move forward. Some of my hobbies
include walking, gardening, reading, cooking, creative endeavors,
being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and a million
other things, some of which I don’t know about yet. I am generally
a calm, easy-going man who enjoys life and lives as stress-free of
a lifestyle as I can.
Julie Boerst
– I love living at White Hawk. I'm generally around most of
the time, often occupied with Dmitri and Susanna (our children). I
love baking and sharing what I bake, plopping bulbs in the ground, getting
the mail (down the driveway) for everyone, visiting neighbors,
and wandering around the land.
