My name is Steven,
and I currently am a technician/installer for Time Warner cable. My
wife, Laura, lives with me and our two cats, Arthas and Mew. We have
twin girls, Arvelle and Sylvanna. We came about the idea of co-housing
while looking for green builders in Ithaca, and were pointed to EVI.
After visiting EVI a few times we decided an ecovillage type style
of living would be perfect for raising a family. My biggest hope for
White Hawk is that it will become a pillar of the community for both
Danby and Ithaca as a place to learn about ways to live with less
impact on the land. I’m also hoping that at some point we will
be able to produce almost all the food we need on our own land, so
we’re not relying on shipping food from thousands of miles away.
Laura and I have been involved with the village since June, 2006,
and became members in the fall. I enjoy reading, hiking, watching
movies, gardening, and playing just about any game.
Laura - I
have my Masters degree in Early Childhood Education (birth-2nd grade)
and plan on using that degree someday. Currently I am a stay-at-home-mother
to my twin girls, Arvelle and Sylvanna. I also keep pretty busy doing
White Hawk work – I am currently the web designer, membership
coordinator, and secretary - amongst other duties. I love my family…I
live with my husband, Steve, our two cats, Mew and Arthas, and two
amazingly beautiful daughters.
I heard about cohousing a bit through my B.S. work
(Environmental Science) and experienced it through EVI. My husband
and I became interested in Ithaca a couple years ago and visited EVI,
we have been researching cohousing communities and lifestyles ever
since. We found out about White Hawk through their architectural consultant,
Rod Lambert, who lives at EVI. We liked the focus White Hawk has on
sustainability, affordability, and private spaces. We started our
membership process for White Hawk in June of 2006. My biggest hope
for White Hawk is that we will be a sustainable and solid community
that collaborates with the larger community of Danby and Ithaca to
better our local region.
I love to do many adventurous things: mostly outdoor
rec, hiking, camping, canoeing, etc. I love playing with my girls.
I love to garden. I love long walks and good conversations. I enjoy
reading a good book and am a sucker for culture-filled things such
as music, theatre, and arts of all types. I enjoy these things more
when done with my family. I am generally a lover of life and intend
on enjoying every aspect of it. I’m passionate and dedicate
myself to the tasks I take on, always striving to do my best.
Arvelle - I am
almost 2 years old and full of life and spice! I have recently discovered
my ability to run and am thoroughly mastering this skill.
Some of my favorite things to do are talk about animals, have stories read to me,
and play outside! I love hugging my sister, Sylvanna!
Sylvanna - I am
also almost 2 years old and full of joy and laughter! I enjoy making up new words, such as "mott" for "cat."
I am calm and pretty laid back. I love lazy Sundays sleeping in my Daddy's arms. I love
to play with my sister, Arvelle!
